Step By Step, Inc. was created in 1996 by Artistic Director, Pamela Caira. The dance floor served as a vessel of healing where she felt at home. With a strong desire to share her creativity and discipline with the community, the one room studio located in Newton, MA, offered Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Hip-Hop classes.
As Pam’s dedication to the community grew, so did her classroom. After seven years Step- By- Step relocated to Waltham and expanded its space to three studios, adding a diverse staff that offered a wide variety of dance genres such as Latin, Irish, Contemporary, Acro, and Musical Theater. A year later, The Next Step Dance Company was formed to offer students intensive level training and additional performance opportunities.
In addition to her classroom and studio work, Pam created Step-By-Step’s Winter Gala Fundraiser performances. In organizing these events, Pam’s desire to help others grew. With each charity she supported, she became a stronger advocate of bridging the healing power of dance with those in need in the community. It was through this philanthropic work that she felt drawn to return to school. In 2022 she earned her Master’s as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a specialization in Dance Movement Therapy at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She is a registered Dance Movement Therapist through the American Dance Therapy Association.
